Protecting Your Teeth With CEREC Crowns

cleveland dental crowns

When a tooth sustains a crack or a chip, or one is severely decayed or infected, then a crown could help. With CEREC technology, our team can create and place a custom and lifelike one in a single visit. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist discusses the benefits of our same-day dental crowns.

When a Tooth Needs Treatment

When does a tooth need to have one placed? We could recommend the placement of a custom restoration when a tooth is damaged, sustaining a crack, chip, or being severely broken. Placement could also lengthen teeth worn down by bruxism, or address misshapen or malformed ones too. We’ve used them to offer better bite balance and to treat tooth decay too severe for a filling. If you have an infected tooth, this can complete a root canal procedure. Even for people with tooth loss a crown can help, securing a dental bridge in place or restoring a single tooth dental implant.

The CEREC Process

At one time, receiving a crown meant two to three visits, but our team uses CEREC technology to complete the entire process, start-to-finish, in only one visit. To begin, we will gently numb the tooth being treated and then remove structure from it to make room for the restoration. Our team then gathers detailed digital images and measurements from multiple angles, combining them to create a detailed 3D impression. The information is then uploaded into an onsite milling machine, which crafts the crowns from a solid block of ceramic. The material is very strong and durable, but can also be color matched to blend with your smile. The restoration is then attached to the tooth after we check the fit. The restoration can last for years to come with proper care and attention!

Keeping Your Smile Strong

To keep your restoration bright and safeguard the tooth we’ve attached your new restoration to, you need to maintain good oral hygiene. These actions also protect your natural teeth from tooth decay and gum disease too! You should take time to brush for two minutes when you wake up and then again before bed, using a fluoride toothpaste each time. Floss every evening before you brush the second time too. Try to cut back on how much sugar and starch you consume, and of course, see our team for checkups and cleanings very six months.
