Bonding/Contouring

While stains may affect your smile, other dental issues could play a role in the appearance of your teeth. These issues include things like worn teeth surfaces, chipped teeth, cracks in a tooth, and more. Because teeth-whitening is not able to correct these blemishes, two other cosmetic dentistry treatments are recommended: Bonding and contouring.

What are These Treatments?

Bonding and contouring are minimally invasive treatments that improve the shape and size of a tooth. When a patient elects tooth bonding, that means the tooth is built up and restored using a biocompatible, tooth-colored resin. The resin is bonded to the tooth and sculpted to correct its shape and size. For contouring, though, the tooth’s outer enamel is gently sculpted. This process is carefully planned out to preserve the maximum amount of enamel needed for a healthy and structurally sound tooth. Both treatments are effective at improving a smile’s appearance with strategic and small improvements. These treatments are also conservative alternatives to other treatments, such as porcelain veneers and dental crowns, that may be more extensive for patients.
