CEREC Technology Means Same-Day Crowns

cleveland ceramic crownsA dental crown can repair a tooth and address serious oral health issues too. Instead of requiring two to three visits to place, we can use advanced technology to do so in one visit! In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist talks about how we use CEREC technology to design, create, and place same-day dental crowns!

When Teeth Need Restoration

When should you contact our team for a dental crown? The restoration covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, which means we can address serious concerns that could otherwise threaten smile stability. For example, we can cap a worn-down tooth, or repair cracks or chips. Our team could address misshapen teeth and also more severe cavities. We could even complete a root canal for an infected tooth too. They can improve bite balance and chewing capabilities, and also aid in replacing missing teeth too! We’ve used them to secure bridges in place or even restore a single tooth dental implant.

Creating and Placing Custom Restorations

How do we create and place these crowns, and how do we do so in only one visit? To get started, our team will carefully remove structure from your tooth after we numb it, so the process is comfortable. We then take detailed digital images of the prepared teeth from multiple angles. We combine these to create a 3D impression, which we upload it an onsite milling machine. The machine then crafts the completed version from a solid block of ceramic. The ceramic material is very strong and durable, and can handle daily bite forces with ease. The material can also be color-matched to blend with your smile seamlessly. We then check the fit of the crown and make any necessary adjustments. The last step is to attach it with a powerful bonding agent, securing it in place for years to come!

Protecting Your Smile

After your same-day restoration, you can take steps to help reduce the need for future restorations. If you play sports or martial arts, be sure you wear a mouthguard. Take time to brush and floss daily, and see us for an exam and dental cleaning every six months too. These actions help prevent damage, or the onset of cavities and periodontal disease, all of which could threaten tooth stability and cause discomfort.
