How We Restore Teeth With Crowns

cleveland dental crowns

When we see a patient with a cracked or chipped tooth, or cavities too severe for a simple filling, we may recommend a full restoration. Also known as a crown, this helps rebuild teeth and protect the smile from cavities and infection. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist talks about how we restore your smile with a dental crown.

Using Lifelike Materials

While metal is effective, we want you to always feel proud of your smile’s appearance. For this reason, we can use lifelike materials that we color-match to blend with the rest of your smile. For example, the front facing teeth could receive restorations made from all-ceramic, which we can shade to blend with the smile. For the side and rear teeth, which ensures greater bite forces and pressure, our team can employ restorations made from porcelain-fused-to-metal or zirconia, which are very strong and able to absorb daily bite forces and pressure.

Placement in One Day

At one time, going to the dentist and receiving a dental crown meant between two and three visits to complete. But with the CEREC CAD/CAM system, our team can create and place them in only one visit. To begin, we will numb the tooth and gently remove structure from the outside of it. We then take a series of detailed digital images of the prepared tooth. These we combine to create a 3D model of the tooth. We employ this to design and craft a crown that will look natural and be color-matched to blend with your smile. We then attach it with a powerful bonding agent. You leave our office with a restored smile in only one sitting!

Protecting Your Smile

To protect the teeth we’ve attached a crown to, and safeguard the rest of your smile, you need to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes and use a toothpaste with fluoride. You also need to floss every evening too! Cutting back on sugary foods and drinks can help too. These actions limit plaque buildup and help your smile stay healthy. A visit every six months could allow us to examine your teeth and clean them too, removing harmful layers of plaque buildup to safeguard them from cavities and gum disease.
