What Orthodontics Will You Need?

cleveland orthodontic care

Correcting uneven teeth could help improve overall oral health, in addition to boosting the beauty of your smile. We have multiple options to correct uneven teeth, depending on the cause and extent of your misalignment. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist will explain each of our unique approaches to addressing uneven teeth and improving your smile’s health and beauty!

Traditional Braces

The option most people are familiar with is traditional metal braces. Essentially, we place a metal bracket onto the front-facing side of each tooth. We then connect a portion of an arch wire to them with a band. During periodic visits to our office, we will adjust the tension in the arch wire, which begins to move the teeth into new positions. The jawbone tissue then reforms around these new positions, as your smile is gradually corrected over the course of 18 months to 2 years on average. We often recommend this option for those with more severe cases of misalignment!

Invisalign® Aligners

We also have a clear and comfortable alternative with the Invisalign® system. Instead of using brackets and wires, we take detailed digital impressions of your smile and craft as series of aligners from a clear and BPA-free plastic. Each set is practically invisible, and worn for about two weeks for 20 to 22 hours a day. Every two weeks, you move on to the next set in the series as your smile is corrected. The total treatment time depends on the extent of your misalignment, and whether you wore the aligners as recommended, but is usually a year for adults and up to 18 months for teens. The aligners can be removed before you eat, or before you brush and floss, which makes mealtime and oral hygiene much easier!

Porcelain Veneers

For very minor cases of misalignment, we could correct their appearance in just two visits. Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic restoration we place onto the front-facing sides of each tooth. The veneers then instantly changes the shape and color of the teeth. Along with addressing everything from misshapen teeth to discoloration, they could help address the appearance of your smile’s alignment, providing an alternative to braces or aligners. If you have any questions about tackling your misalignment, then contact our team for a consultation. We will choose the best option for your smile, and help you on your journey toward an even and healthy smile. Remember, a straighter smile is possible, and often in as little as one year!
