Taking Time To Brighten Your Smile

cleveland teeth whitening

With cosmetic dentistry, we can offer esthetic improvements for your smile. If you have stained teeth, we have two options to brighten smiles, often by several shades! In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist talks about teeth whitening, and how we can offer a shining smile from home or in one visit.

The Factors Behind Your Teeth Stains

Our teeth can develop discoloration for a number of different reasons. For example, poor oral health habits, like infrequent brushing and flossing and a lack of regular professional cleanings could allow plaque buildup to form and worsen with time. The buildup makes discoloration more visible. Likewise, drinks with dark pigments could lead to unsightly stains too, and these include coffee, soda, tea, and red wine. Foods high in sugar and starch promote plaque buildup, and tobacco use can also stain your teeth. Our team will carefully examine your smile to assess the cause and extent of your discoloration, so we can choose the right teeth whitening treatment for your smile.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

If you need results fast before a wedding, job interview, or even a first date, we can help with our in-office treatment option. When you arrive at our office, we will apply a topical gel to the surfaces of your teeth. This is done through a pre-filled silicone tray, one you wear in your mouth for 20 minutes, and which is activated with a special LED light. In one sitting you can have a smile several shades brighter! We also send a special pen home with you for touch-ups as needed in the months to come.

Take-Home Whitening

Our take home teeth whitening option can handle more severe staining and also limits the risk of tooth sensitivity afterward. When you come to the office, we will create a set of custom plastic trays, which you take home with you, along with syringes of bleaching gel. Each day, you use the syringe to fill the tray and then wear it for a set amount of time that your dentist decides on. This helps brighten teeth by up to eight shades! The trays and leftover gel are then yours to use as needed to keep your teeth whitened and brighter.

Keeping Your Teeth Bright

A few changes to your routine can help your smile remain brighter for longer periods. Be sure you brush and floss daily, and also cut back on sugary foods and drinks. Drink plenty of water, and see us for routine dental cleanings every six months!
