Starting Orthodontic Treatment In 2022

Do you have misalignment? If so, your oral health could suffer, and you may feel self-conscious about your appearance. Fortunately, we have two different options to correct your uneven teeth. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist will talk about how we use traditional braces and clear Invisalign® aligners.

The Value of Correcting Uneven Smile

The impact on your appearance is obvious, but did you know that there could also be major negative impacts on your overall oral health too? Wirth misalignment, thorough brushing and flossing is difficult and food particles could remain trapped between teeth even if you maintain good oral hygiene habits. This means an increased risk of cavities and even gum disease. Uneven teeth also alter the balance of your bite and place strain on the jaw joints, so the onset of painful disorders like TMD and bruxism (chronic teeth grinding) could occur. To enjoy better oral health and a more attractive smile, you should consider orthodontic treatment.

Braces

For people with more severe cases, we could recommend braces. This involves placing a metal bracket onto the front facing sides of each tooth. We then connect portions of an arch wire to each bracket with a band. During your periodic office visits, we will adjust tension in the arch wire to begin shifting the teeth into their proper positions. This could take up to two years, but helps teens and adults enjoy even and healthier smiles.

Invisalign® Aligners

We also have another option for addressing uneven smiles, one more cosmetic in approach. Again, Invisalign is for teen and adult patients. Instead of brackets and wires, we will gather detailed images and measurements of your smile with digital scanning technology. We then use the images to design and craft a series of aligners from a BPA-free plastic material. The aligners will be clear and almost invisible when worn, making this a preferable choice for many patients. A set is worn for 20 to 22 hours a day on average, and every two weeks you upgrade to the next set in the series. After about a year, you could enjoy optimal results! These are also removable, as you can take them out before meals or prior to brushing and flossing your teeth.
