Restoring Your Smile With Custom Crowns

Cleveland crownsWhen you have a tooth with a more severe case of tooth decay, or one that has become damaged, then we could prescribe a dental crown to repair the tooth. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist wants to discuss how we restore smiles, and how we use CEREC to repair teeth in only one visit!

When You Benefit From a Crown

A dental crown is a restoration that addresses both cosmetic and restorative issues by covering the visible portion of your tooth. While at one point most were made of metal, our team can create them from more lifelike materials. The ceramic we use is translucent like actual tooth enamel, and can shade them to match surrounding teeth, blending seamlessly. We could use them to repair cracks or chips, or lengthen the teeth worn down by teeth grinding. Placement also reshapes malformed teeth, and could make discoloration too. We could also use them to correct bite balance and also address tooth loss, securing a custom dental bridge or even restoring a single tooth dental implant.

CEREC for Single Visit Placement

Instead of requiring two to three visits to complete the placement, we can finish the whole process in only one visit! To get started, our team will administer a local anesthetic and then remove structure from the outside of it. We then take a series of clear digital images with an intraoral camera. We combine these images to create a 3D computer impression and design the crown with precision and accuracy. We then upload this information into the onsite milling machine, which begins crafting your restoration from a solid block of ceramic. We then check the fit and make any final adjustments before we secure your new crown with a powerful bonding agent. Your new restoration could last for years to come!

Protecting Your Oral Health

To help keep your restoration bright and protect the tooth we’ve attached it to, as well as your natural teeth too, you need good oral hygiene habits. You should always find time to brush twice a day for about two minutes. Use a fluoride toothpaste too, as this strengthens the outer tooth enamel. You also need to floss every evening, enjoy a healthier diet, and of course, see us for a checkup and cleaning every six months.
