Two Choices To Whiten Your Smile

cleveland teeth whitening

If you have unsightly stains on your teeth, you don’t have to hide your smile or try to brighten them with less-than-effective store-bought options. Instead, your Cleveland, TX, dentist offers two unique options to brighten teeth, often by several shades and often in only one visit! In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about our whitening options.

The Causes of Stained teeth

Why do unsightly brown or yellow stains form on our smiles? There are a number of possible causes. For example, drinks with tannins and dark pigments, such as soda, red wine, coffee, and tea, could leave behind discoloration. Consuming foods and drinks high in sugar promotes plaque buildup, which makes stains more visible. A lack or proper oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing, is also a major factor in plaque buildup. If you smoke or use other tobacco products, this stains your teeth (and increases your risk of cancer). As party of your treatment, we will assess the cause and severity of your teeth stains, which helps us choose the best option for your smile.

In-Office Treatment

Our in-office procedure is often popular with people who need results fast. After all, the procedure helps brighten teeth by several shades in just one to two hours. When you come to the office, you will wear a pre-filled silicone tray, which coats the smile in a bleaching gel. A special LED light then activates the bleaching ingredients, to begin breaking up discoloration. The process takes about 20 minutes, and we will send you home with a special pen for touch-ups as needed.

Whitening at Home

We also have an at-home option for more severe discoloration, and to limit the risk of tooth sensitivity following treatment. We send you home with a special kit that contains custom-fitted trays and a bleaching gel. The trays will be filled with the gel and worn for about 30 to 45 minutes. The total course of treatment lasts about a week to ten days on average, and could be the key to a significantly brighter smile. The trays and remaining gel are then yours to keep should you need a little touch-up down the road. We can also discuss possible changes to your oral hygiene routine to help your teeth stay brighter for longer periods.
