Did you know we have cosmetic treatments that can address several different esthetic issues, and will do so in only one visit? With dental bonding and contouring, we can address problems with the shape and color of your teeth. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist talks about the benefits of cosmetic dental care!
Your Initial Consultation
First, we need to take a close look at your smile. During your initial consultation, we will talk to you about your dental habits, and the issues you have with the appearance of your smile. Next, we will use digital x-rays and intraoral cameras to obtain detailed images of your smile, which we use to pinpoint the factors behind your esthetic issues, and to assess their severity. From there, we can create a detailed treatment plan tailored to your smile to correct these concerns. Often, we will implement bonding and contouring to help you enjoy a more attractive smile in only one visit.
The dental bonding process employs composite resin to correct minor esthetic issues. This is the same material we use for our tooth-colored and metal-free dental fillings. We clean the tooth, and in some cases, we will etch the outer surface. Once we do, we prepare and place the composite resin material. To ensure lifelike results, we actually color-match it to blend with the color of the surrounding tooth structure. We apply the material in several layers, and then sculpt the tooth as the composite resin cures under a light. The last step is to polish the tooth.
With dental bonding, we can mask permanent teeth stains, close gaps between the teeth, repair chips and cracks, and even lengthen worn down teeth too. The procedure can also repair malformed teeth too!
The contouring procedure takes a very different approach, as we don’t add new materials to the tooth. Instead, our team will use contouring to gently sand and buff away small portions of outer structure to correct minor esthetic issues. For example, our team can address very minor chips, dull pointed, sharp, or jagged portions of outer structure. We can also correct overly large or misshapen teeth, and smooth out grooves, pits, and rough patches too.
