Invisalign® May Offer Invisible Smile Correction

cleveland invisalign

Many people assume that metal braces are the only option to correct misalignment. However, your Cleveland, TX, dentist can help address crooked, crowded, or overlapping teeth with Invisalign®. In today’s blog, we’re going to discuss how to help treat smiles with braces that are clear and removable.

The Causes (and Dangers) of Misalignment

Dental misalignment means that you have teeth that are uneven. Not only does this cause issues with the beauty of your smile and your self-confidence levels, but this could lead to issues with oral health. For example, uneven teeth may upset bite balance, which strains the jaw joints and increases the risk of painful disorder like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding), which could eventually mean jaw pain, headaches, and even damaged teeth. Your uneven teeth could also provide places for food particles to become trapped, even if you brush and floss. As bacteria break down these partials, the risk of tooth decay and gum disease is elevated. By treating your misalignment, you help improve your oral health and avoid major complications down the road!

Crafting Clear Braces

Each set of aligners you use will be custom-made specifically for your smile. To create them, we first need to carefully examine your smile to assess the cause and extent of your misalignment. Next, we take detailed impressions and images with digital technology. At a dental lab, these images will be employed to help design and craft a series of aligners. Each one is made from clear plastic, offering a nearly invisible solution to misalignment. They will fit comfortably to prevent gum and cheek irritation, and will also be removable, so you can take them out before meals or prior to brushing and flossing your teeth each day. Your day-to-day activities won’t have to change so much!

The Treatment Process

Basically, each set of aligners will be worn for about two weeks, 20 to 22 hours a day on average. The exact time will depend on your dentist’s specifications. After about two weeks, you will upgrade to the next set in the series. Over time, they gradually begin to shift the teeth and improve overall alignment. The total treatment time varies, but is usually around a year for adults, and up to 18 months for our teenaged patients.
