Partial Dentures Could Restore Your Lost Teeth

cleveland partial denturesA partial denture is a great way to address multiple gaps in your smile, and help you avoid the complications of untreated tooth loss. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist talks about how we design and craft a set of dentures, and what makes partials such a great way to improve the beauty of your smile.

Partials vs. Bridges

A dental bridge addresses between one and up to three missing teeth in a row. The prosthetic contains crowns attached to each end of the replacement teeth, which we attach to the abutment teeth on either side of the gap. However, if you have multiple gaps across your arch then a bridge may not be enough to help. To prevent complications caused by tooth loss, we could instead recommend a partial. The partial contains multiple new teeth set in an acrylic base. The base is designed to look like gum tissue, and the teeth will be created from materials like ceramic, which absorb daily bite forces and can be shaded to match the rest of the smile. There are also metal clasps, invisible when the prosthetic is in place, that secures the denture by connecting to natural teeth.

Crafting Your New Smile

The partial will be custom-made for your smile to prevent complications with the health and balance of your smile. We do this by taking detailed digital images with scanning technolgoy, which we combine to create a 3D computer impression. No need to bite down on a mold filled with sticky materials anymore! The images and measurements let us design and craft the new teeth in a lab setting. The denture will be worn daily, and soaked and cleaned regularly. The prosthetics removable, and will last about 5to 10 years on average.

Preserving Your Smile

Just because you’ve lost a number of teeth doesn’t mean that a full set of prosthetics is inevitable. Routine care could be implemented to help preserve your remaining natural teeth, including brushing and flossing and checkups and cleanings to avoid issues like gum disease or infection. We want to help our patients preserve as many of their natural teeth as possible, and smile with confidence upon receiving their custom-made partial dentures.
