Restorative Care: How To Avoid Needing It

Don’t get us wrong, restorative care is exceptional when you need it. Sometimes, things happen and you require a repair, even if you’re someone who takes excellent care of your smile. However, a good portion of the time, we see patients for fillings, crowns, and more as the result of issues that were entirely preventable. If you’re interested in finding out more about what you should be doing to protect your oral tissues at home, so you can see us for preventive cleanings and checkups without having to worry about restorations, then we can most certainly steer you in the right direction.

Brush!

You may not necessarily make the connection between this daily task and avoiding restorative care. Here’s what you should tell yourself to keep up with this part of your dental hygiene:

  • Daily care means brushing twice, morning and evening, for two minutes each and every time you do so.
  • When you keep up with brushing, you remove plaque (which can harden into tartar). Removing plaque and preventing tartar is very powerful in preventing decay and gingivitis. This helps you avoid restorative treatments like fillings, crowns, etc.

Floss, Too

Floss your smile, too! Yes, brushing offers a lot of protection against the aforementioned road toward plaque and tartar buildup and then the subsequent need for restorative care. However, there’s plaque and other stuff between teeth and right below your gumline, too, which only floss can keep away.

Remember The Extra Stuff

When we give you advice that includes tips like avoiding too much sugar, skipping acidic drinks, and remembering to rinse (then brush when you can) after snacks and meals, chewing sugarless gum between meals, etc., remember these details! They all contribute to keeping your smile clean and healthy, so needing restorative care remains a thing of the past.
