We Offer Dental Care For Kids

cleveland children's dentistry

When was the last time you brought your child in for a dental checkup? Children benefit from regular visits to the office, which can help them maintain bright and healthy smiles. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist looks at our approach to children’s dentistry, and how we help safeguard little smiles.

Kids Need Checkups and Cleanings

Starting at around age, we recommend a checkup and cleaning appointment for kids every six months. Each visit is a chance for kids to have their smile examined, so we can find out if there are concerns like tooth decay that need treatment. These visits also help them become accustomed to the office, so the risk of dental anxiety is lower. In addition, they can gain a better understanding of their own oral health. In the same appointment, as part of our approach to children’s dentistry we will also clean the teeth, a process that removes harmful plaque and tartar buildup from the teeth. Removing said buildup helps lower the risk of teeth stains, bred breath, cavities, and even gingivitis.

Preventing Cavities

As part of these children’s dentistry visits, our team can also offer treatments to help lower your child’s risk of tooth decay. For example, during each checkup visit we can apply a fluoride gel that coats the teeth and helps strengthen the outer enamel, reducing the likelihood of cavities. Kids also have a difficult time reaching the rear molars when they brush and floss, which can allow food particles to remain dislodged there, increasing the risk of cavities. But with dental sealants, we apply a protective layer to these teeth that remains in place for up to ten years in some cases. The layers prevent food particles from becoming stuck on or between these teeth. They then wear away with time, but remain the longest on the most vulnerable portions of the tooth structure.

Dental Fillings

If we do discover a cavity in your child’s smile, our children’s dental treatments include fillings. We use a metal-free material that is safe for little ones of all ages. Composite resin can be shaded to blend with the smile and offer a lifelike appearance, and placement only requires one visit. If you have any questions about children’s dentistry, or about seeking care for your little one, then contact our team today to schedule a visit. We look forward to helping your kids enjoy their best possible smiles!
