Time To Brighten Your Smile!

cleveland teeth whitening

Do you have stained teeth? Don’t feel embarrassed about your smile. Instead, talk to our team about a possible solution. We have a number of cosmetic treatment options, including teeth whitening. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist talks about our in-office and at-home teeth whitening treatments.

The Causes of Stained Teeth

Why do our teeth become stained? Discoloration could occur for a number of reasons. For example, drinks with dark pigments, like coffee, red wine, soda, and tea, could discolor them. Foods high in sugar and starch could leave particles behind that feed bacteria, causing plaque buildup that makes discoloration more visible. Smoking and tobacco use is a factor too, as is infrequent or improper brushing and flossing. Understanding the common causes of stains means you can make changes to your daily routine and help your teeth stay brighter for longer following cosmetic treatment.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

Our in-office teeth whitening option can offer brighter smiles in only one visit. When you arrive, we will provide a set of pre-filled silicone trays. The patient then wears the trays and a special LED light is used to activate the gel and brighten the smile. The process takes as little as 20 minutes, and teeth could be several shades brighter in that time. A special pen is then sent home with you to offer touch-ups as needed in the coming months, keeping your smile noticeably brighter for longer periods.

Brighter Smiles from Home

We also have an option you can use on your own schedule from home. This system can also address more severe discoloration, and limits the risk of tooth sensitivity afterward. We sent you home with a special kit that contains a set of customized trays and a powerful bleaching gel. The tray is filled with the gel and worn for about 30 to 45 minutes a day. The trays ensure the gel is spread evenly across the smile, and prevent saliva from diluting the gel too. After one to two weeks, you could have a smile brightened by several shades. You then keep the trays and any remaining gel for touch-ups months down the road. We could also discuss masking the stains with dental bonding or even porcelain veneers.
