Orthodontics For Teens And Adults

cleveland orthodontics

When we see people with uneven smiles, we can offer correction with orthodontic treatment. For some, this could include braces, while for others we can help with Invisalign®. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist talks about how we correct teen and adult smiles with our orthodontic treatment options.

The Benefits of Even Smiles

When you have a straight smile, this means brushing and flossing is a snap and food particles don’t become lodged in inaccessible places. As a result, the risk of cavities and gum disease, as well as bad breath and teeth stains, lowers. You also have a balanced bite that doesn’t strain the jaw joints, so you’re less likely to develop painful disorders like TMD or bruxism (teeth grinding). Of course, you will feel more confident in your smile, which helps with social situations and overall quality of life! So, if you have dental misalignment, then you should consider seeking treatment with our team.

Braces

For those with more severe cases of misalignment, we may recommend braces. The process involves attaching metal brackets to the front facing side of each tooth. A portion of an arch wire is then connected to these brackets with a band. You may have additional bands that connect the upper and lower arch of your smile. During regular visits to our office, we will adjust the tension in the wire to begin shifting the teeth into optimal positions, a process that takes about two years on average.

Invisalign®

We know that many teens and adults worry about the impact of orthodontics on the appearance of the smile. Which is why, when possible, we offer a more cosmetic approach. Invisalign® doesn’t use metal brackets or wires, instead the teeth will be corrected with a series of clear and cozy aligners. These will be custom-made based on detailed digital impressions we create of your smile, so they fit comfortably while gently shifting the teeth with precision and accuracy.

You wear a set for 20 to 23 hours a day, for about two weeks. You then begin wearing the next set, and so forth for about a year to 18 months on average. This means clear smile correction! But your aligners can also be removed before meals or before brushing and flossing your teeth, which help boost overall oral health too. If you have any questions, then give our team a call today.
