Restoring Your Tooth In One Visit

cleveland ceramic crowns

When you have severe damage or decay that is beyond repair with a filling, we can still repair and restore your smile. Using a dental crown, we can craft a lifelike option that blends with your smile. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist talks about how we use CEREC to create crowns and place them in only one visit.

The Dental Restoration

A dental crown is a strong restoration that covers the entire visible portion of your tooth, everything from the gum line up. We use these to address more severe restorative issues, and to correct esthetic issues as well. For example, we can repair chipped, cracked, and worn-down teeth, and treat more advanced cavities. We can address infections by completing a root canal with them, and also reshape malformed teeth too. Placement could help improve overall brie balance and function, and we can even aid in tooth replacement by securing a bridge or restoring a single tooth dental implant.

CEREC

At one time, creating and placing them requires two to three visits. But with the CEREC CAD/CAM system, we can now complete every step in only one visit. To begin, we will need to numb your tooth and then gently remove structure from it, making room for the restoration. Next, we take detailed images with a small digital camera at the end of a thin wand. We take pictures from multiple angles, and combine them to craft a detailed 3D computer impression. This is used to design the crown, and the information is then uploaded into an onsite milling machine. The machine then crafts the crown from a solid block of ceramic, a strong material that can handle daily bite forces and can be color-matched to blend with your smile.

Placement and Maintenance

When the crown is ready, we will check the fit and make any necessary adjustments. We then place the finished product with a powerful bonding agent. This could secure it for years to come, and the lifelike nature of the crown means you can smile with confidence again. To keep it strong and bright, just continue to brush and floss the tooth as you would the rest of your natural ones, and also schedule a visit with our team for routine checkups and cleanings down the road.
