The Difference Between Complete And Partial Dentures

cleveland partial denturesWhen a bridge isn’t enough to tackle your missing teeth, then you may need to talk to our team about dentures. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist is looking at the difference between a partial or complete set of dentures, and how to decide which one is right for your smile. A full smile is possible with our prosthetic options!

Partial Dentures

When you have several missing teeth and these are spread out across the arch of our smile, this could be too much for a bridge, but not enough to require a complete prosthetic. Which is why we could prescribe partial in this situation! A partial contains several replacement teeth set in an acrylic base. We take care to craft the teeth to look natural and provide a durable chewing surface. The base will look like gum tissue. The prosthetic is held in place with metal clasps that attach to natural teeth, but are invisible when the prosthetic is worn. Being custom-made, it will fit comfortably and help restore function and beauty to your smile.

Complete Dentures

If you’re missing all of your teeth, or most of them, then you may need a complete set of dentures. We could gently extract the few remaining teeth to prepare your smile. The prosthetic will contain a full row of lifelike ceramic teeth placed into an acrylic base. Suction will help the lower arch stay in place firmly, and the upper arch may need the assistance of a special adhesive. As well as the partial, they will last about 5 to 10 years before requiring replacement as the jaw ridge gradually changes shape.

Choosing Your Prosthetic

We will perform a detailed examination of your smile to help you decide which one is right for you. We then take detailed digital images of your smile, which we use in a lab setting to help design and craft the finished product. We will then keep an eye on your smile during routine checkup and cleaning visits to monitor your new teeth and ensure your smile continues to look and function well. If you have one or more missing teeth, let us know and schedule a visit now, before the hectic holiday season is underway. Not only can you end 2021 with a complete smile again, but you can use your remaining dental insurance benefits before they expire!
