Schedule Your Next Checkup Now

cleveland dental checkup

If you haven’t had a checkup in the last six-months, we recommend you schedule one soon! A dental exam is a way to help our team keep a close eye on your smile, and prevent minor issues from becoming major oral health problems. In today’s blog, your Cleveland, TX, dentist talks about the value of a simple checkup visit.

When You Need a Checkup

When should you see us for a checkup? We agree with the American Dental Association, that everyone should undergo a checkup at least once every six months. When you do, this means we have the chance to identify oral health problems in the early stages, before you experience discomfort or risk losing a tooth. These visits benefit everyone over the age of two, so be sure to schedule one for your kids too. We also clean your teeth in the same visit, removing plaque to help stave off tooth decay, bad breath, stained teeth, and even gingivitis and gum disease.

What the Procedure Involves

Essentially, we will take a visual exam of your smile, and then administer intraoral cameras and digital x-rays to gather detailed images, so we can identify signs of concern that may not be visible to the naked eye. We want to catch trouble early, and prevent complications. Along with identifying cavities, infections, gingivitis, and gum disease, we will also look for wear and fiction that could indicate TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). For kids, we want to make sure they’re cavity-free, and also make sure the baby teeth are falling out on schedule and that permanent teeth are erupting properly. The exam doesn’t take long, and we can even walk you through it so you better understand your oral health.

An Oral Cancer Screening

Your exam is also a chance for our team to screen for oral cancer. Adults need to have a screening at least once every year. The main factor behind the high mortality rate of oral cancer is that the disease is rarely caught in the early and more treatable stages. But a routine screening helps us to do just that!
