Placing A New Crown In One Visit

When you have a chipped or cracked tooth, or one that has an advanced stage of decay or an infection, then you may need a dental crown. Instead of relying on metal restorations that require two to three visits to place, your Cleveland, TX, dentist can now design and place a lifelike ceramic option in only one sitting! In today’s blog, we’re looking at our CEREC crowns.

The Dental Crown

A dental crown is a restoration designed to cover the entire visible portion of a tooth, addressing an array of cosmetic and restorative concerns at once. Each one is custom-made to not only ensure an attractive appearance, but a durable restoration and a balanced bite as well. When you visit our office, we will make a detailed examination with digital scanting technology to assess the cause and extent of your oral health concern, and decide if a crown is the best option for restoring your smile.

The CAD/CAM System

If so, then we will administer a numbing agent and then remove structure from the outside of your tooth, which makes room for the new restoration. Next, we take several images of the area with a digital camera at the end of a thin wand, known as an intraoral camera. We then combine these images to craft a detailed 3D model. The model is uploaded into an onsite CEREC milling machine, which then crafts the competed product from a block or ceramic using CAD/CAM technology.

The ceramic we use contains stain-resistant properties can handle the daily bite forces and pressures a tooth endures, and is also color matched to blend with your smile. When complete, we check the fit and place the finished product with a powerful bonding agent. The entire process only takes one visit to complete!

When You Need One

We may suggest a crown to treat an advanced case of tooth decay or to complete a root canal for an infected tooth. We repair cracked or chipped teeth, and also reshape malformed teeth as well. Placement addresses esthetic issues with shape and color too. If you have lost one or more of your natural teeth, the new restoration could anchor a dental bridge in place and then also restore a single tooth dental implant.
