Smile Time: Things To Keep Within Reach When…

You’re not always going to be able to casually run to your restroom, take advantage of the full collection of dental hygiene items you have, and then get your smile nice and clean! In addition, sometimes, you’re supposed to be done with caring for your smile for the day (hint, hint: when you get into bed for the night). With that said, our Cleveland, TX team wonders: Are you ready throughout the day to cater to your oral health at the drop of a hat? Consider some things you should keep within reach during particular moments, so you can always answer yes to that question!

When You’re At Work

When you’re at work, in class, or somewhere that isn’t home for the day, remember that you still want to be able to keep your smile in good health and to keep it clean! Since you cannot simply shuffle into the bathroom at a moment’s notice to brush and floss, we encourage you to keep options within reach that will help you when you’re in a pinch! For instance, you can keep a travel-size floss in your desk (or, since it’s small, a full-size container!). You might want to keep some sugarless chewing gum on hand because it can help cleanse your smile. Oh, and a bottle of water will help keep you hydrated and your smile rinsed clean.

When You’re In Bed

First, it’s always smart to keep some water within reach to keep your oral health safe. If you feel like your mouth is dry, feel thirsty, or cough during the night, you can sip on the water. Unlike all other beverages and snacks, water is safe and even advantageous for your oral health, so drink away! You may also want to keep your phone nearby, so you can set an alarm, reminders to brush in the morning, and so you can check your schedule (maybe you have a dental visit) and your shopping list (perhaps you’re short on toothpaste). Make sure you have your oral appliance within reach, too, if you use one!

When You’re Eating

When you’re eating, whether you’re home, at a friend’s house, at a restaurant, in the car: Keep water within reach. It’s always smart to drink water when you have a meal, snack, or dessert. By sipping on water, you rinse teeth over and over, keeping them free of food particles that decay-causing bacteria love to eat. Again, water is wonderful for your oral health!
